OUR STORY

1800: In the early 1800’s William Thompson came from Missouri and settled on a large tract of land in South Nashville. Mr. Thompson built a small church on what is now known as the Paragon Mills Road. Some years later, a new church was built on Thompson’s land and was called Thompson’s chapel.

1883: In 1883, the congregation decided to move to a new site on Nolensville Road near the area we used to know as Harding Mall and the name was changed to Thompson Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church South. This building was replaced with a larger building and bell tower in 1894. It became a station church with a full-time Pastor in 1954.

1960: As the area south of Nashville continued to grow, the church saw the need to expand its facilities again to meet the needs of the area. In 1958, the congregation decided to move to a 6.5 –acre site located on Raywood Lane and changed the name to Hillcrest Methodist Church. Ground was broken on June 14, 1959, with opening services held on January 3, 1960. Since this initial move, more buildings have been added to this campus over the years. Here at Hillcrest, we seek to live as Christ’s disciples, renewed by God’s word, Worship, Service and Community. We have a rich legacy of faithful service dating back to a log chapel William Thompson built almost 200 years ago.
